The same few g change balance and rotational inertia differently at the tip, 3 and 9 o'clock, the throat, or the handle. Added mass can improve stability at impact while also delaying preparation and deceleration. Even if counterweight in the handle restores the original balance point, total mass and swingweight do not return to their original values. Customization is therefore not simply making a racquet heavier; it is a measured process that begins with one problem to solve and a defined stopping limit.

Try these steps in order

  1. Measure the finished racquet's weight, balance, and, if possible, swingweight with strings, overgrip, and dampener installed. If you lack suitable equipment, use a specialty shop and do not present an internet calculation as an actual measurement. Choose one goal: “racquet-face twist on contact near the frame,” “instability against a heavy baseline ball,” or “matching two racquets.” A goal that promises more power, stability, and maneuverability all at once cannot be judged.
  2. Attach a small amount of an easily handled material such as tungsten, or another safely sealed product, symmetrically on both sides. Mark its position and mass on a diagram and retain the original parts so the change is fully reversible. Before and after the change, use the same order: 20 crosscourt balls, 10 feeds near the frame, 10 fast returns, and 10 serves. Record racquet-face wobble, late preparation, contact location, and late-session fatigue separately.
  3. Do not keep adding mass during one session; test the same condition at least twice. Even when the target problem improves, include any delay on serve preparation or fast returns in the same benefits-and-costs table. If the improvement repeats and the tradeoffs are acceptable, have a shop verify final weight, balance, swingweight, and attachment safety. If the test fails, remove the material, return to baseline, and start a different-location experiment in a separate record.

The quality of customization is determined not by the attached g figure but by baseline measurements, one goal, symmetric and reversible changes, and recorded on-court results. Small steps with clear stopping criteria reveal both the stability you gain and the maneuverability you lose.
