Start with this check

The label 16×19 tells you only that a racquet has 16 mains and 19 crosses; it does not say where those strings are concentrated within the head. A 16×19 spread across 100 square inches and a 16×19 packed tightly through the center of a smaller head can have different effective spacing and string length. Wider spacing may affect string movement, trajectory, and wear, but material, gauge, tension, and swing all contribute, so the label alone cannot prove that a racquet is a “spin” or “control” model.

Try these steps in order

  1. Check the manufacturer's specifications for the candidate's mains × crosses, head size, shared holes, and any special string layout. Inspect the actual string placement before relying on a marketing name. Scale photographs of two racquets equally, or overlay the physical frames, and compare the spacing of 8 mains and 8 crosses in the center of the usual contact zone. Use the area where the ball normally lands, not the entire hoop, as the reference.
  2. Record any substantial difference in static weight or swingweight and, when possible, string both racquets with the same new product and gauge at similar reference tensions. If conditions differ, mark the test as more than a pattern-only comparison. From consistent partner feeds, hit 20 crosscourt topspin balls and 20 flat drives. Record net clearance, first-bounce depth, and whether you close the racquet face more or shorten the swing.
  3. After each session, photograph lateral movement and snapback of the center mains, intersection notching, and string alignment. Separate first impressions from changes in trajectory and break location as playing time accumulates. Reverse the order on at least two days and choose a pattern that provides both the desired trajectory distribution and useful life. If the difference is minimal, decide from the complete racquet's maneuverability and contact results, not from the name 16×19.

Bottom line

In a pattern label, the string count is the table of contents and the actual center density is the body. Test flat and topspin trajectories and track movement and wear over time with the same string before deciding how two 16×19 patterns truly differ.
