The Wilson document identifies the hole layout and stringing method for an exact Wilson model; it is not a frame-integrity certificate. This guide therefore offers no universal answer in years. Use it only as an observation checklist and suspend both play and restringing when the exterior raises a structural concern. Treat a perceived change in frame response separately from old strings, balls, or technique.

Try these steps in order

  1. Clean the racquet, then photograph the head at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock and both sides of the throat and handle in bright light. Compare with earlier photographs for new cracks, dents, side-to-side asymmetry, or lines continuing beneath the paint. Check whether the bumper has worn through to expose the frame, whether a cracked or sunken grommet lets a string touch an edge, and whether the butt cap or handle has play. Ask a shop about replacement-part availability using the exact model code.
  2. If you suspect an abnormal sound or structural damage, stop play and do not restring until a specialty shop has inspected the racquet or the manufacturer has provided guidance. Do not test the response at a higher tension or cover a crack with tape. If there is no structural concern, install a fresh string of the familiar product and gauge at your usual reference tension, then run a baseline drill with new balls on your normal court. This separates the trajectory change of worn strings from presumed frame aging.
  3. For 20 crosscourt balls, 10 fast returns, 10 volleys, and 10 serves, record response, sound, and racquet-face stability and, when possible, compare them with a sound demo of the same model. Do not declare the frame's life over from one session's sensation. If its safety condition is normal, write one current problem that a new model should solve. Replace the racquet only when repeated matched playtests reduce that problem while preserving existing strengths; if you simply want something new, identify the choice honestly as preference-driven consumption.
