Babolat Pure Aero 98 Gen9

This is more than a smaller-headed Pure Aero. The 98 adds roughly 5 g, moves the balance towards the handle and adds a cross string. Separate those changes when deciding whether the model suits your trajectory and timing.

Read 98 in² together with 16×20

The listing specifies 98 in², 305 g unstrung, 315 mm balance and 16×20. The main count matches the standard model, while the cross count increases from 19 to 20. Without measured central spacing, that does not establish a guaranteed lower launch angle.

Compare flatter attacking drives separately from higher defensive topspin. If only one improves, you can make a more informed choice between changing the frame and adjusting its strings.

Read the published 295 swingweight separately from RA 71

Babolat publishes 295 swingweight and RA 71 without specifying the swingweight measurement condition. The number differs by five from the standard Gen9’s 290, but a numerical difference alone does not establish a matched-condition inertia difference or a handling score. Confirm measurement conditions before treating it as either.

RA is a frame-stiffness indicator under a particular method. Assuming that a 98 or a control-oriented product must be softer would overlook the published specification. Evaluate the complete setup, including string stiffness.

If you want two matched match racquets

Two examples of one model can differ through manufacturing variation and string installation. Do not stop at the nominal weight printed on the frame; document mass and balance in playing condition.

Match the string, gauge and grip configuration before assessing the remaining difference. Adding handle mass to match balance is not the same operation as matching swingweight.

Make defensive depth the final test

The recommended range is 46–55 lb. Avoid changing polyester gauge and tension simultaneously at the start. Check depth from low, late contact as well as well-prepared attacking shots.

Alternate with the standard Pure Aero under matching string conditions and log return length, moving contact and late-session serving rhythm. Those outcomes are more decisive than an impression based on one extra cross.
