Connect 100 in² to the contact locations in your matches

Against the Blade 98 16×19 V10, head area increases from 98 to 100 in² while both retain a 16×19 pattern. Manufacturer unstrung mass falls from 305 g to 300 g. TW's strung references are 323 g/322 swingweight for the 98 and 318 g/319 for the 100.

Two extra square inches do not provide a complete map of the sweetspot or off-centre rebound. Log contact on running forehands, cramped returns and high backhands. A useful benefit of the 100 would be retaining depth and direction more easily at the locations you frequently miss towards.

The constant 22 mm beam differs from the 98's taper

Wilson Japan lists the 100 V10 beam as 22.0 mm FB; TW specifies 22/22/22 mm. Applying the 98 V10's 21.5/21.5/20.5 mm taper to every Blade V10 would be incorrect. Models within the same generation still have different sections.

TW lists both frames at 61 RA. Different thicknesses with the same bending reference illustrate that those quantities convey different information. Thickness alone cannot calculate torsional resistance or rebound at a particular contact point; assess central and off-centre shots separately.

Choose the situations in which lower swingweight should help

TW's 319 is a strung swingweight reference. It is not the same kind of quantity as the 300 g unstrung mass, and strings, overgrip and dampener affect the finished setup. Whether preparation becomes easier than with the 98 needs checking on actual units.

Include preparing the first volley after serving and attacking a short ball after a long rally. Check whether quicker preparation lasts into the following shot. If incoming pace seems to push the racquet around, distinguish late preparation from displacement during impact before deciding to add weight.

The 100 Pro is not simply a heavier step up

Wilson specifies the 100 Pro V10 at 295 g unstrung, lighter than the standard 100. Length changes from 27 to 27.25 inches, pattern from 16×19 to 16×20 and beam thickness from 22 to 23 mm. TW's strung references are 309 g, 318 swingweight and 68 RA, so the range is not a simple progression in weight.

Both have a TW strung balance of 33.02 cm, yet the standard 100 is listed as four points head light and the Pro as five. Head-light points are measured relative to each racquet's length midpoint. Do not treat the point count on different-length frames as an identical centimetre measurement.

Separate easy depth from the response on short touch shots

TW lists a 47–57 lb tension range. A larger head does not automatically require thick polyester or high tension. Begin with a familiar string model and gauge, checking the depth needed in attack and defence.

If full swings reach depth comfortably but short returns or volleys run long, record the situations separately to define the adjustment. Also distinguish a response present immediately after stringing from one developing with use. Large simultaneous changes in material and tension can remove conditions that were already working.
